Megachile Pluto

Megachile pluto is the biggest bee in the world. It is a very large Indonesian resin bee. The females can grow as big as 39mm long with a wingspan of 63mm. Males are smaller. They grow to about 23mm long.

It is also called a Wallace’s Giant Bee because it was first discover by Alfred Russel Wallace  in 1858 in Indonesia.  Then it was thought to be extinct until it was rediscovered in 1981 by Adam C. Messer in the islands of Bacan, Indonesia

These giant bees built its nest inside an active termite nests. That was why they were thought to be extinct but in fact they were sharing a home with the termites.
